The Yoga Teachers' Fellowship Brings together teachers and students whose passion is yoga

Gurmukh in South Africa

I was honoured to be in the presence of Gurmukh during her visit to South Africa recently (see pictures). In Cape Town, where this pic was taken, she spoke about the need human’s have to do the right kind of work that serves humanity. Then she did this hectic set of yoga which had us all breathing heavily, exercising furiously and ultimately enlivening our beings. (I’m still stiff :-)
In Jozi on Tuesday 3 June, because she did the same set as in Cape Town.
Gurmukhis an extremely inpsirational person, and her teaching’s are guided by the powerful personality of Yogi Bhajan, who brought Kundalini Yoga to the west.
With many funny, poignant and inspirational anecdotes she regaled us with her wisdom of yoga, healthy living with ahimsa (non-violence) and seva (service) to the world.
And underpinning all of this is the technology of kundalini yoga, which radiates the body. and flushes it full of prana.
The “Queen of Kundalini” didn’t disappoint us with breathtaking sets of kriyas challenging body, mind and soul.
The dancing part of the kriyas reminded me much of Nia classes with the free expression of creativity dancing around the room. In many of the tough Kriya’s, hearing Gurmukh’s voice exhorting us to push further, made me aware of just how limitless we are as we work through the pain of the physical body.
One thing I’ll take away from these classes is to do Camel pose every day. A pose Gurmukh’s says should be part of our daily vitamins, now if only I can do it as gracefully as Sally here :-)
Thanks to everyone who made this event possible, Bhavini for the organisation and the idea, Pritam and the South African Kundalini Yoga sangha, Thami for hosting, and everyone else in Cape Town and Jozi who made this a fantastic event.
